A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in Broward County after authorities say he fatally shot his older brother 15 times and left his body near a canal in Dania Beach.
Deputies identified the victim as 23-year-old Kevin Dominique. His younger brother, Demetre Fleurimond, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) said Dominique was killed inside the family’s home on Southwest Sixth Avenue shortly after returning from work on August 17. Detectives believe Fleurimond then drove his brother’s body less than a mile away and dumped it near Ocean Waterway Boulevard and Old Griffin Road.
Deputies later found Dominique’s abandoned car at a nearby library parking lot.
During questioning, Fleurimond admitted to the shooting, according to BSO. His mother, Marie Jeanty, told reporters she lost both of her sons in the tragedy and struggled to understand her youngest child’s actions. She suggested the confrontation may have stemmed from a dispute over household chores.
“Fifteen times, he shot Kevin to make sure he didn’t survive,” Jeanty told Local 10 News.
Neighbors and family friends described Dominique as someone who cared for his younger brother and was working toward building a better future.
Fleurimond is being held at the Juvenile Assessment Center for 21 days. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 9.
The investigation into the motive remains ongoing.
