Police in Kibuku District are investigating a shocking case of fratricide following the death of a 77-year-old man in Natoto Central Village, Buseta sub-county.
The deceased, identified as Sinini Lawrence, a peasant farmer, was reportedly attacked and killed in his sleep on the evening of July 31, 2025. His younger brother, Mutundi Sebastian, 70, has been arrested in connection with the murder.
Bukedi North Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Wilfred Kyempasa confirmed the arrest and said the suspect is currently detained at Kibuku Central Police Station.
According to eyewitness accounts and local authorities, the suspect allegedly ambushed Lawrence after he returned from a local bar. He is said to have struck the victim on the head with a hoe and inflicted further injuries on the neck and hands.
The area LC1 Chairperson, who reported the incident to police, was the first to respond to the scene. He managed to confine the suspect in the room to prevent escape and immediately alerted law enforcement.
A team of officers led by Kibuku District Police Commander SP Dickens Turyatemba, together with the Scene of Crime Officer, homicide detectives, and the Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations, visited the scene. A bloodstained hoe believed to be the murder weapon was recovered, and statements were taken from witnesses and relatives.
The body of the deceased was transported to Kibuku Health Centre for a postmortem examination.
Police say investigations are ongoing to determine the motive and circumstances that led to the fatal attack.
