Tension erupted in Kaduna on Saturday after suspected political thugs violently disrupted an African Democratic Congress (ADC) event, leaving several party supporters injured and properties destroyed
Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the venue, which had been decorated in ADC colours, and unleashed mayhem on participants. Viral videos from the scene show people scampering for safety as the thugs vandalised chairs, banners, and other items. Photos also revealed some party faithful with varying degrees of injuries.
The attack comes at a sensitive political moment. Just weeks ago, opposition politicians formally adopted the ADC as the platform for a united coalition against the ruling party.
Among the prominent figures backing this coalition is former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, whose defection has already altered the political dynamics in the state and beyond.
The latest violence has sparked outrage among ADC members and raised fresh concerns about the growing trend of political thuggery ahead of upcoming elections.
