Gunmen suspected to be terrorists invaded the Kucheri community in Zamfara State's Tsafe local government area on Monday afternoon, shooting sporadically and causing panic among residents. The terrifying moment was captured in a video posted on X by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, showing residents fleeing in all directions as rapid gunfire echoed through the community.
In the video footage, several residents, including women and children, were seen running for their lives while gunshots were heard in the background. Some residents made frantic Islamic prayers, calling on God for protection, while others screamed "innalillahiwainnailaihirojiun" (Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him, we shall return) in panic and desperation. A male voice was also heard shouting in Hausa as the gunmen advanced.
This incident is not an isolated case in Zamfara State, which has been grappling with relentless attacks by bandits. These armed groups operate from camps hidden within a vast forest spanning Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, and Niger states. Recently, they have been responsible for mass abductions of students from schools across the region. In a separate incident, terrorists stormed Tofa village, killing over 15 residents and injuring many others. The village has been devastated by repeated bandit attacks, with most residents abandoning their homes due to insufficient security protection.
