The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old carpenter, Auwal Mohammed, for allegedly stealing four 43-inch plasma televisions from a client’s residence in Bauchi metropolis.
This was disclosed in a statement issued late Monday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil.
According to the statement, Mohammed, who resides in the Sabon Railway area, was working at the home of an unidentified client when he reportedly discovered the new televisions in one of the rooms.
“He allegedly moved the televisions to a hidden part of the house where they remained undetected for about two weeks,” Wakil said.
The suspect later transferred the TVs to a neighbour’s house for safekeeping and reportedly received N50,000 on credit for them. Further investigations revealed that he sold one of the stolen televisions to a known receiver of stolen goods for N40,000.
Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend his accomplice and recover the remaining stolen items.
SP Wakil confirmed that Mohammed is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
