In a heartbreaking incident, a four-year-old girl, Anvika Prajapati, lost her life after falling from the 12th floor of a residential building in Navkar Complex, Naigaon (West), on Tuesday evening. The incident has sent shockwaves across the community, with a video of the tragic fall widely circulating on social media.
According to the police, the child had accompanied her mother, Anjali Prajapati, to visit relatives at the high-rise apartment complex. As the two were preparing to leave around 8:15 p.m., Anjali reportedly placed her daughter on a shoe rack adjacent to an un-grilled duct window. While Anjali got momentarily occupied with other tasks, little Anvika attempted to put on her footwear. Tragically, she lost her balance and fell through the open duct window.
Despite Anjali witnessing the fall and making a desperate attempt to catch her daughter, Anvika slipped through before she could intervene. Her screams drew the attention of other family members, who rushed to the ground floor in panic.
Anvika was immediately taken to the nearby Sir DM Petit Hospital, a civic-run facility, where doctors unfortunately declared her dead before admission. She had reportedly sustained severe head injuries from the fall.
The Naigaon police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and have begun a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities are also examining whether there was any negligence regarding safety features, such as the absence of protective grills on the duct window.
This tragic event has reignited concerns about child safety in high-rise buildings, particularly the importance of securing windows and ledges in homes where young children are present. Police have urged residents to take extra precautions and ensure that high-risk areas in their homes are appropriately secured.
As the investigation continues, the community mourns the untimely death of a young child whose life was cut short in a preventable accident.
