Lagos, Nigeria — Social-media activist Verydarkman has offered a ₦12 million reward for evidence that could clarify what happened during an alleged on-set assault involving controversial promoter Sam Larry and the late singer Mohbad. The activist says the incentive will fund “the full truth” behind the rising star’s 2023 death, a tragedy that continues to grip Nigeria’s entertainment scene.
₦10 Million for Raw Footage, ₦2 Million for Key Witnesses
Verydarkman’s Instagram post promises ₦10 million to anyone who can supply unedited footage of the July 2023 music-video disruption, plus ₦2 million for information identifying two women seen pushing Mohbad and rapper Zlatan Ibile in wheelchairs during the shoot.
“Attempts to bury Mohbad’s story will fail,” he insisted, rejecting claims that he has been paid to stay silent.
Why the Video Matters
Investigators have yet to establish a direct link between the on-set clash and Mohbad’s death on 12 September 2023. However, family members and fans believe the footage could expose a pattern of harassment.
- According to media scholar Dr. Chinedu Anya of UNILAG, “viral evidence often drives public pressure, forcing authorities to reopen stalled probes.”
- More than 250,000 social-media users have joined online forums demanding answers, underscoring the public appetite for transparency.
Rising Tensions and Public Allegations
The reward offer follows new accusations from Mohbad’s sister-in-law, who shared photos of the singer’s injuries and an audio clip in which he described repeated abuse. Comment sections quickly filled with anger:
- “Evidence choke online,” one user wrote, urging police to act.
- Others questioned Verydarkman’s motives, warning against bias.
Legal Backdrop and Next Steps
Nigerian law treats the unauthorised disclosure of sensitive material as admissible in certain cases if it aids a criminal investigation. Legal analyst Funmi Adeoye notes that “crowd-sourced evidence has tipped the scales in previous high-profile cases, but chain-of-custody rules still apply.” Sam Larry has not publicly responded to the latest allegations.
Police have yet to confirm whether they will accept crowd-sourced video. For now, tips can be sent directly to Verydarkman, who says he will verify authenticity before handing material to detectives.
