Man Slumps, Dies Amid Dispute Over Seized Motorcycle in Ogun

Tragedy struck in the Imode community of Ewekoro Local Government Area, Ogun State, as a man identified as Isiaka Kazeem reportedly collapsed and died while attempting to recover his seized motorcycle from a local community leader.

The Ogun State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the traditional leader, popularly known as “Youngest Baale,” who is currently on the run.

According to police sources, the incident was reported on Friday by a resident of Omoboriowo Street, Ejio Town. Preliminary investigations revealed that Kazeem’s TVS motorcycle had allegedly been confiscated by the Baale on July 20, 2025. Despite several visits to the Baale’s residence to plead for the release of the motorcycle, Kazeem was unsuccessful.

On July 24, following another fruitless attempt to retrieve the motorcycle, the deceased reportedly collapsed while walking home and died at the scene.

Responding to the incident, police detectives visited the location, but the Baale was absent from his residence. The area was secured and documented, and Kazeem’s remains were transported to the State Hospital mortuary in Ifo for a full autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Police spokespersons confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on locating the absconded Baale and recovering the seized motorcycle.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are being thoroughly investigated,” a senior police official said. “We are determined to get to the root of the matter and ensure that justice is served.”

The incident has sparked concerns among residents about the overreach of traditional authorities and the absence of effective conflict resolution mechanisms at the community level.
