A 27-year-old woman died after allegedly being thrown off the sixth floor of a building in Delhi’s Narela area, in what police say was a violent fallout over her partner's planned marriage to another woman.
The victim has been identified as Sadhana Singh, while the accused, Deepak, 32, has been detained and booked under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, police confirmed on Wednesday.
According to investigators, the incident followed a heated argument between the couple after Deepak informed Sadhana that his family was arranging his marriage with another woman.
"Upon hearing this, Sadhana became agitated, which led to an argument. During the confrontation, Deepak physically assaulted her and pushed her off the building’s roof," said DCP (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami.
Police were alerted after passersby spotted a woman lying lifeless on the road. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Deepak naked on the sixth floor, hurling stones at people below. The victim’s body was discovered surrounded by stones, and officials believe Deepak continued to attack her with stones even after she fell.
DCP Swami noted that while Deepak initially responded to police questions with “irrelevant information, banter, and abuse,” he has since begun to communicate more coherently. Police say he has no documented history of mental illness.
The victim's family, who are traveling from Aligarh, are expected to arrive in Delhi soon to assist with the investigation. Authorities hope their input will provide further clarity on the events that led to the tragic killing.
