A grieving community in Anguwar Dan Marka, Katsina State, was thrown into renewed chaos as armed bandits launched a fresh attack during a burial ceremony, forcing mourners to abandon corpses and flee for their lives.
According to a report on Thursday, July 31, 2025, the devastating attack occurred as villagers gathered to lay their dead to rest. The bereaved husband of one of the victims recounted that the bandits struck without warning, arriving in large numbers and opening fire indiscriminately, leaving no time for defense or escape preparations.
In the confusion that followed, families—many still traumatized from earlier attacks—scattered in all directions. The assailants reportedly killed several more people and abducted others, including the elderly and young children.
“Several people were killed, and many others are still being held captive. We are now scattered, taking refuge wherever we can,” the witness said, his voice filled with sorrow.
He added that the survivors are now displaced, with some taking shelter in nearby villages and others in temporary camps lacking food, shelter, and medical aid. The attack has shattered the already fragile morale of the community, turning collective mourning into widespread fear and displacement.
The whereabouts and safety of many abducted villagers remain unknown as the community appeals for urgent security intervention and humanitarian assistance.
