Tragedy struck in the Magede, Ibafo area of Ogun State last week when a well-known businessman, Ademola Alade, was brutally murdered by unidentified assailants in front of his residence. The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday night but was only discovered the following day.
According to a source familiar with the situation, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the case, Alade had just returned home around 10 p.m. after attending a family function. Unknown to him, the assailants were allegedly already inside his compound, lying in wait.
“As soon as he entered his home, they descended on him and dragged him outside,” the source recounted. “He was stabbed in the neck with a sharp object. The blow hit a major vein, and he bled to death at the entrance of his compound. Blood was everywhere.”
The murder went unnoticed until the following Thursday afternoon, when neighbours became concerned after failing to see or hear from Alade. Upon checking, they discovered that both the gate and front door to his house were wide open. Inside, they found his lifeless body lying in a pool of blood.
Adding to the mystery, the source revealed that Alade’s vehicle, which was usually parked within the compound, was missing. His phones and some personal belongings were also gone, raising suspicions that the assailants might have used the car to flee the scene or simply stolen it.
“It’s unclear whether this was a robbery or a targeted assassination,” the source added. “The way it happened makes people suspect it might have been a planned attack, but no one knows for sure.”
The case was reported to the Ibafo Divisional Police Headquarters, and Alade’s body was later taken to a nearby morgue. His family has since retrieved the remains for burial in Ogbomoso, his hometown in Oyo State.
When contacted for comments, the Divisional Police Officer in Ibafo, Atteh Samuel, declined to speak, citing protocol restrictions. Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, stated she had not yet received an official briefing on the incident.
Investigations into the killing are expected to be underway, but as of now, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the brutal attack remains unclear.
