A 44-year-old divorced father, identified as Thaweesak Namwongsa, was found dead in his home after reportedly consuming nothing but beer for an entire month. Authorities say he died of a suspected seizure brought on by extreme alcohol abuse and malnutrition.
The tragic discovery was made by his 16-year-old son, who had been living with him in their residence in the Ban Chang district of Rayong province following his parents' divorce. The teenager told police that his father had been refusing food for several weeks and had been living exclusively on beer. Despite preparing home-cooked meals for him daily, the son said Thaweesak declined to eat, drinking only alcohol.
On the day of the incident, the teen returned home from school to find his father unresponsive. He immediately alerted emergency services.
Rescue workers from the Siam Rayong Foundation arrived at the scene, but despite efforts to resuscitate the man, he was declared dead at the scene. According to officials, the man likely suffered a fatal seizure.
Paramedics and investigators were reportedly shocked by the condition of the home. The floor of the bedroom was littered with over 100 empty beer bottles, with narrow footpaths carved out between the clutter to allow movement between the bed and other areas of the room.
Neighbours described Mr. Namwongsa as a quiet man who had kept to himself since his divorce. His son revealed that the father’s drinking habits worsened significantly after the breakup, leading to a steep decline in his physical and emotional well-being.
Although the exact cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed, police say that excessive alcohol consumption and self-neglect are likely contributing factors. An autopsy is expected to be conducted later this week to determine the precise cause.
