A British Sikh man has been fatally stabbed in East London, prompting a murder investigation and several arrests. The victim, identified as 30-year-old Gurmuk Singh—also known as Gary—died on Wednesday, July 23, in Felbrigge Road, Ilford, following what police believe was a targeted attack involving individuals known to each other.
According to the Metropolitan Police, emergency services were called to the scene by the London Ambulance Service after reports of a violent altercation at a residential address. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Singh was pronounced dead at the scene due to a stab wound to the left thigh, as confirmed by a post-mortem examination.
A 27-year-old suspect, Amardeep Singh, has been arrested and charged with one count of murder. He is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear for trial at London’s Old Bailey on January 5, 2026.
In addition to the main suspect, four others—a 29-year-old man and three women aged 29, 30, and 54—have also been arrested in connection with the case. They have been released on bail until October while investigations continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke of the Met’s Specialist Crime North unit described the stabbing as an “isolated incident” but acknowledged the shock it has caused within the local community. “An incident of this nature sends shockwaves throughout the local area, and we understand the direct impact on the community,” she said. “People can expect to see an increased police presence while officers conduct their inquiries. We encourage anyone with concerns to speak with them.”
As police continue to investigate the motive behind the attack, Gary’s family has released a heartfelt statement mourning the loss of their loved one.
“Gary was a well-loved man who had a remarkable ability to connect with everyone he met,” the family said. “A true social butterfly, nothing brought him more joy than being surrounded by his family. Gary will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in our hearts forever.”
An inquest into the death has been opened and adjourned pending further investigation.
The Metropolitan Police are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward as the inquiry remains active.
