BREAKING: Kidnapped Kwara Agrochemical Dealer ‘Alhaji Chemical’ Regains Freedom After Alleged ₦30 Million Ransom
Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Gaskiya, popularly known as “Alhaji Chemical,” has regained his freedom after spending more than a month in captivity, following his abduction from his residence in the Taiwo area of Lafiagi on June 29, 2025.
Alhaji Gaskiya, a prominent agrochemical dealer and CEO of Gaskiya Agrochemical, was reportedly released on July 30. A family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity to NupekoTV-Lafiagi, confirmed his release and claimed that a ransom of ₦30 million was paid to secure his freedom.
The abduction had sparked panic across the Lafiagi community in Edu Local Government Area, with residents expressing growing concern over the rising wave of insecurity in Kwara North. According to eyewitnesses, the kidnappers—armed and arriving on motorcycles—overpowered local vigilantes before abducting the businessman in what was believed to be a targeted operation.
Sources within the community indicated that the kidnappers appeared to have singled out Alhaji Gaskiya, fueling fears of a well-planned and executed attack.
The release of the businessman has brought relief to his family and the community at large. However, the incident has further highlighted the deteriorating security situation in the region. Residents have repeatedly called on security agencies to step up efforts to protect lives and property, amid growing cases of banditry and abductions.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies have not officially commented on the ransom claim or the status of investigations into the incident.
