A 17-year-old boy, Lurwanu Suleiman, has tragically drowned in an open pond in Dandalama village, located in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Kano State Fire Service through its Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi.
“We received an emergency call from Malam Aminu Dandalama at about 12:54 p.m. on Tuesday,” the statement read. “We immediately dispatched our rescue team to the scene at about 1:25 p.m.”
Rescue personnel recovered Suleiman from the water, but he was already lifeless. His body was subsequently handed over to the Ward Head of Dandalama village, Alhaji Safiyan Usman.
The cause of the drowning remains unclear and is currently under investigation, authorities said.
The Kano State Fire Service urged residents to exercise caution around open bodies of water, particularly during the rainy season, when drowning incidents tend to rise.
