In a coordinated effort, local vigilantes and security forces in Zamfara State neutralized three armed bandits and arrested one in Maru Local Government Area. The successful ambush took place on Thursday, June 6, around 3:00 p.m. when four suspected bandits riding on two motorcycles were intercepted by members of the local vigilante group, known as Yansakai.
According to intelligence sources, the vigilantes, working in collaboration with troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, engaged the suspects in a fierce confrontation. Three of the bandits were killed in the exchange, while one was arrested alive. Two motorcycles used by the suspects were recovered. The arrested bandit was immediately handed over to police authorities.
In a separate incident on Saturday evening, armed bandits invaded a mosque during Isha prayers in Zurmi LGA, opening fire on worshippers. One person was confirmed dead at the scene, while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries. Security personnel were swiftly deployed to the area to repel the attackers and stabilize the situation.
The twin incidents underscore the persistent threat of banditry in Zamfara State, even as security forces intensify their operations to restore peace and protect vulnerable communities.
