Nollywood Mourns: Actress Gbemi Anjola Passes Away at 33

The Nigerian film industry is in mourning following the death of fast-rising Nollywood actress Gbemi Anjola, who passed away on March 24, 2023, after a long and painful battle with ovarian cancer.

Gbemi, just 33 years old, had shown immense strength over the past few years as she fought the disease with determination and courage. She was first diagnosed in 2021 and underwent six months of chemotherapy in Dubai, returning to Nigeria with hopes of resuming her career.

Gbemi was known not just for her beauty and talent, but for her warm spirit and professionalism on set. Her roles in films like "Imelda" and "World Famous" had begun to earn her a loyal fan base. Many of her colleagues, including popular actors and actresses, took to social media to express their grief and pay tribute to her memory.

Actress Nkechi Blessing, who worked closely with Gbemi, wrote: "This is a hard pill to swallow. You fought like a warrior. Rest in peace, Gbemi." Actor Kunle Afod also posted a photo of her, saying: "Gone too soon. May your soul find peace"

Gbemi Anjola's death is a devastating loss to Nollywood. She was considered one of the next-generation stars—talented, humble, and full of potential. Her passing has reignited calls for better awareness and support for cancer victims in Nigeria, especially in the entertainment industry, where many suffer in silence.
