A disturbing wave of criminal activity may be unfolding in Imo State, Nigeria, after a man narrowly escaped what appears to have been an attempted kidnapping for possible organ harvesting. Onyekwere Edward Emeka shared his terrifying experience after boarding a commercial bus on May 28, 2025.
Emeka recalled the exact moment his nightmare began: "The driver asked me to give him ₦1,000 change. I handed it over and suddenly began to feel dizzy." He had been waiting at the Fire Service Roundabout in Owerri when an Imo transport vehicle pulled up, and he entered the bus without suspicion. Soon after the driver made the request for change, Emeka lost consciousness.
When Emeka awoke, he found himself blindfolded, tied up, and lying in an unfamiliar bush. His cries for help drew the attention of a passerby who untied him and informed him he was in Ngor Okpala. The stranger took a photo for documentation and guided Emeka out of the forest, dropping him off at Ihitte Junction along the Owerri-Aba Road.
Though visibly shaken, Emeka did not report the incident to the police, citing a lack of details about the vehicle and its driver. Instead, he issued a somber warning to the public: "Eternal vigilance should be our watchword." As the people of Imo State remain on high alert, one question remains: What measures can be taken to prevent such incidents and ensure public safety?
