A farmer, Kabiru Kamba, has recounted how he rescued a newborn baby girl buried alive in his farmland in Kamba, Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State. Kamba said he noticed an unusual ridge in his farm and flagged down some motorcyclists to help dig. They discovered a wrapper buried in the soil, which raised his suspicion, and the police were informed.
The police dug further and found the baby girl, miraculously alive and crying, shrouded in a piece of textile. Kamba said he took custody of the child out of pity and compassion, and the Dandi local government council handed her over to him pending the conclusion of police investigations.
Kamba said he didn't expect anything in return for his actions, describing it as a humanitarian act. His wife expressed willingness and joy in accepting the baby into their family, promising to take care of her like their own child. The farmer has even planned a naming ceremony for the baby.
The Technical Working Group on Gender-Based Violence, led by Hajiya Rafa'atu Hammani, visited Kamba to commend his heroic actions. The group's secretary, Alhaji Nasiru Idris, reaffirmed their commitment to offering support and commended the Nigeria Police for their prompt action.
