45-Year-Old Man Arrested for Allegedly Defiling 8-Year-Old Neighbor

A 45-year-old man, Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed Dandatijo, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly luring his neighbor's 8-year-old girl into his apartment, defiling her, and giving her N50 to keep quiet about the incident. The incident occurred at No. 54 Baale Street, Olodi Apapa, Lagos, where the suspect and the victim reside. 

The police investigation revealed that the defendant allegedly had unlawful sexual intercourse with the minor and warned her not to reveal what had happened. However, the matter came to light when the girl's mother observed behavioral changes in her daughter and discovered physical evidence of abuse, including traces of blood and semen. 

The suspect was charged before the Igbosere Magistrate Court sitting in Tinubu, Lagos Island, for defilement under the Criminal Laws of the State. The prosecuting officer, Supol Ibrahim Haruna, told the Court that the alleged act was committed without the victim's consent and that the suspect attempted to suppress disclosure through a monetary inducement. 

The Presiding Magistrate, N.A.S. Wahab, ordered the suspect's remand in custody at the correctional center pending the outcome of the DPP's legal advice. The matter was adjourned till July 25, 2025, for mention, and the prosecutor was directed to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP. 

The alleged defilement of an 8-year-old girl by a 45-year-old man highlights the need for increased vigilance and action to protect children from abuse. As the case progresses, one question remains: Will justice be served, and what measures can be taken to prevent such incidents in the future?
