A devastating building collapse in Ota-Ona, Ikorodu, has claimed the lives of two children of a 49-year-old school bus driver, Saheed Akeredolu. The victims include his 18-year-old son, Abdulmalik, who had scored 320 in JAMB and was set to study Electrical Electronics at the University of Lagos.
Abdulmalik's academic achievement had earned him admission to UNILAG, and he had received congratulatory messages from both the University of Lagos and Lagos State University. His father described him as an electrician by training with a bright future ahead.
The building collapse occurred while Abdulmalik and his 13-year-old sister, Amira, were praying inside the uncompleted building due to a curfew restriction in their community. Saheed explained that the children preferred to pray at the mosque, but the curfew forced them to stay indoors.
Saheed's voice was filled with grief as he shared the painful loss of his two children. "My son scored 320 in JAMB. He planned to study Electrical Electronics at UNILAG, now he is dead," he said. The father is now left with just one child, a 16-year-old daughter, and is mourning the loss of his beloved children and the dreams they carried.
