Spanish Police Uncover 'House of Horrors' Where Children Were Held Captive for 4 Years

Spanish police have arrested a German couple for alleged child abuse after discovering their three young children held captive in a "house of horrors" in Oviedo, Spain. The children, aged 8 and 10, were found in horrific conditions, forced to wear nappies and sleep in caged beds.

The house was found to be full of rubbish, old medicines, and pet excrement. The children were kept out of school, forbidden to leave the house, and were not allowed to access the garden. The doors were locked, and windows were permanently closed, with the children living in secrecy.

A resident in the area raised concerns after hearing voices that sounded like children coming from the house. Police conducted surveillance and discovered that more than one person lived in the house. When they entered the house, they found the children barefoot, wearing nappies, and sleeping in cribs.

One of the children was seen kneeling on the grass and touching it with amazement, highlighting the extent of their isolation. The police were horrified by the conditions in which the children were living.

The children's parents, a 53-year-old German man and his 48-year-old American wife, were arrested and are being held in custody without bail. The mother reportedly told police that they thought it was the best way to keep the children safe.

The children have been placed under the guardianship of the Government of the Principality and are receiving medical attention. The police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the children's captivity.
