The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has officially invited Nigerian singer, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, for clarification over online content linked to alleged sexual offences involving minors. The agency has given Speed Darlington until Monday, June 2, 2025, to appear in person at its headquarters in Abuja.
The allegations against Speed Darlington surfaced after a viral video showed him seemingly confessing to raping a minor in a hotel. The Lagos State government formally notified NAPTIP following the disturbing allegations, and the agency has since taken swift action to investigate the matter.
In a statement released on Friday, NAPTIP's Director, Information and Communications Technology & Coordinator, Hakeem Lawal, said that the agency cannot accommodate Speed Darlington's preferred schedule. The agency emphasized that the matter is of urgent national importance and requires an immediate response.
NAPTIP stated that the invitation was sent to Speed Darlington on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, giving him sufficient time to prepare and appear as requested. The agency has specified that Speed Darlington must appear in person at its headquarters, located at 2028 Dalaba Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, FCT, Abuja, by 1 pm on Monday, June 2, 2025.
The agency emphasized that Speed Darlington's cooperation is critical in this matter, and his prompt appearance is required to facilitate the investigation. The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has also condemned the alleged crime and clarified that its jurisdiction is limited to Lagos State.
As the investigation unfolds, Speed Darlington's response to the allegations will be closely watched. Will he appear before NAPTIP as scheduled, or will he face further consequences? The outcome of this investigation will likely have significant implications for the singer's career and reputation.
