Firefighters from the Kwara State Fire Service were attacked on Saturday while responding to a distress call at the Adeta Roundabout in Ilorin, the state capital. The incident occurred when a Ministry of Environment bus caught fire, and the firefighters were called to the scene to put out the flames.
According to Hassan Adekunle, spokesman of the state fire service, the firefighters were unexpectedly attacked by a mob upon arrival at the scene. The assault disrupted emergency operations, and the windshield of the fire appliance was damaged. Fortunately, no firefighters sustained any injuries during the incident.
The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, strongly condemned the act of violence against emergency responders. He urged all citizens of the state to remain law-abiding and peaceful, emphasizing the fire service's commitment to protecting lives and property.
The fire service director appealed to the public for support and cooperation during emergency operations. This incident highlights the importance of allowing emergency responders to do their job without interference or violence.
