Amadi Celestina, a resident of Enugu State, has shared her harrowing experience after losing ₦3 million to a visa fraud syndicate.
Celestina revealed that the scammers included a taxi driver and a woman named Margaret, who posed as a visa agent claiming she could secure travel documents to France.
According to Celestina, Margaret demanded ₦3 million for the visa. She initially paid ₦2 million and was told to travel to Abuja for biometric processing. Upon arrival, the taxi driver—allegedly part of the scheme—arranged a hotel room for her.
While staying at the hotel, Celestina experienced a disturbing encounter. She said someone kept knocking on her door at night, but when she peeped through the bathroom window, no one was there.
“Somebody kept knocking on my door at the hotel. I would peep through the bathroom, and I wouldn't see anybody,” she recalled.
The incident has raised concerns about rising visa scams and the need for greater public awareness and vigilance.
