A 13-year-old girl was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her home in Dabri, Dwarka, on Thursday afternoon, prompting a murder investigation by Delhi Police. The incident has raised serious concerns, with the girl’s mother currently being questioned as part of the ongoing inquiry.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka), Ankit Singh, a distress call was received at 1:45 PM reporting the death of a minor. Police arrived at a residential building in Sitapur, where the girl’s body was discovered in a locked room on the third-floor terrace.
The mother initially told officers that her daughter had been found with her hands and feet tied. However, by the time police arrived, the body was untied. Investigators believe the mother may have removed the bindings before their arrival. No signs of sexual assault were observed, although a post-mortem report is pending to determine the exact cause of death.
Police said the girl lived with her mother, an 18-year-old sister who works at a factory, and two brothers aged 12 and 16. Their father passed away years ago. On the morning of the incident, the older sister had gone to work, and the younger brother was not at home. The mother claimed she had left briefly with her elder son for an errand, leaving the girl alone.
CCTV footage shows the mother returning home around 11:30 AM and staying for about 15 minutes. She told investigators that her daughter was alive at that time. When the caretaker of the building alerted the police later, they found the girl dead, with no visible signs of forced entry or robbery.
Forensic teams were called to examine the scene, and a case of murder has been registered. Police are questioning residents in the building and say they have developed strong leads. The investigation is ongoing as authorities await the final autopsy report to confirm whether the girl was strangled.
