A shocking and disturbing crime has shaken a Maryland community, as 27-year-old Spencer Dillon Hamilton has been arrested and charged with the first-degree murder of his 87-year-old grandmother, Pauline Yvonne Titus-Dillon.
According to court documents, Hamilton walked into the Rockville City Police Station on Sunday evening and allegedly confessed to the crime, telling officers that he had been "lying in wait" in his grandmother's bedroom closet before attacking her.
The documents reveal that Hamilton had been hiding in the closet since the early hours of March 30, and at around 4 a.m., he allegedly attacked his grandmother as she entered her bedroom. Hamilton confessed to stabbing Titus-Dillon in the back and head, strangling her, and punching her in the face and head.
Police reported that Hamilton was carrying the suspected murder weapon at the time of his arrest. He also allegedly told police that he had moved his grandmother's body and attempted to clean up the crime scene before stealing her phone, credit cards, and laptop computer.
Hamilton has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond. During his court appearance on Monday, Hamilton expressed his desire to act as his own attorney, prompting the judge to order a psychiatric evaluation. He is due back in court on April 7.
The motive behind the alleged killing remains unclear, and the community is left reeling from the shocking and disturbing nature of the crime.
