In a heinous crime that has shaken the community, 23-year-old Brynnen Murphy has pleaded guilty to the murders of his pregnant girlfriend, Kaylen Johnson, and her 2-year-old son, Kaden Johnson. Murphy's brutal actions have earned him a 95-year sentence in a state correctional facility, effectively a life sentence.
The events unfolded on March 5, 2022, when Murphy shot Johnson twice in the head after an argument, with Kaden strapped into a car seat in the back. He then dumped Johnson's body in a roadside drainage ditch and drove to a 30-foot elevated bridge, where he tossed the crying toddler over the side. Kaden's death was attributed to starvation and exposure to the elements, rather than injuries from the fall.
Murphy's arrest came after a week-long search for Johnson and Kaden, with his initially uncooperative demeanor raising suspicions. Upon his arrest, Murphy confessed to both killings, providing a chilling account of the events.
The District Attorney's Office opted for a plea deal to spare the victims' family the trauma of a trial, given the graphic nature of the case. District Attorney Hilla Moore emphasized that the sentence brings justice for the victims and their family, while also acknowledging the brutality of the crimes.
Murphy's sentence serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
