A Customary Court in Lagos has granted a divorce to a couple after 13 years of marriage, citing sexual deprivation and irreconcilable differences. Mr. Tunde Adeyemi, the petitioner, claimed that his wife, Mrs. Funke Adeyemi, had denied him conjugal rights for several years, leading to emotional distress and a breakdown of marital trust.
The court ruled in favor of the divorce, with Presiding Judge Mrs. Patricia Adetokunbo emphasizing that a marriage without mutual affection and fulfillment cannot thrive. The judge granted custody of their two children to the wife, while ordering the husband to provide monthly child support.
Mr. Adeyemi testified that despite multiple efforts to resolve their differences, his wife consistently refused intimacy without explanation. Mrs. Adeyemi, on the other hand, claimed she had lost interest in the marriage years ago and saw no reason to continue pretending.
