A devastating incident marred the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations in Kano, Nigeria, as a 20-year-old man stabbed a guard of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II to death on the Eid prayer ground. The attack occurred on Sunday, March 30, during prayers, according to the Nigeria Police.
The deceased guard was protecting the Emir when he was attacked by the young man. Another security personnel present at the scene was also injured and is currently receiving medical attention at the Murtala Muhammad Hospital in Kano city.
The Kano State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the incident and has invited Alhaji Wada Isyaku, the Shamakin Kano and an official of the Emir's palace, for questioning. Abdullahi Kiyawa, the Police Command spokesperson, confirmed the development in a statement.
Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, a prominent traditional and religious leader in Nigeria, has been a vocal advocate for social reform and justice. This incident raises concerns about the safety and security of public figures and their personnel in Nigeria.
