A significant breakthrough has been made in the fight against drug trafficking in Nigeria. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested Arokodare Damil Ebenezer, the 43-year-old owner of Damillionz Takeout and Bay Lounge in Lekki, Lagos, for his alleged involvement in the importation of narcotics from the United States.
The arrest was made on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Bay Lounge on Admiralty Way, Lekki, where Ebenezer reportedly conducted his drug-related activities. He was taken into custody as he awaited the delivery of his most recent shipment of narcotics.
According to Femi Babafemi, NDLEA's Director of Media & Advocacy, the arrest stemmed from the interception of a cargo containing seven large cartons that arrived in Lagos on March 12. The consignment was seized by NDLEA operatives from the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation at a logistics company.
A search of Ebenezer's Lekki home yielded 94 grams of cannabis, a cannabis crusher, and other drug paraphernalia. This brings the total weight of the drug seized from him to 32.24 kilograms. Ebenezer claimed he started the illicit drug business in 2017.
The NDLEA has also foiled other drug trafficking attempts in various parts of the country. In one instance, officers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja Lagos, thwarted an attempt by Omoruyi Terry to export 1,400 pills of tramadol 225mg weighing 800 grammes to Italy.
In Katsina, four suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led raid operation at Godai village in Daura LGA, where 684 blocks of compressed skunk, a strain of cannabis weighing 423kg, and 86,000 pills of diazepam were recovered.
Additionally, NDLEA operatives destroyed 13,198 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa in various Edo State forests between Monday, March 24, and Friday, March 28th. Other successful operations were carried out in Niger, Enugu, Kwara, and Oyo states, resulting in the seizure of significant quantities of narcotics.
