Elon Musk, the world's richest man and a close ally of President Donald Trump, has caused controversy with a one-armed gesture he made during a speech at Trump's inauguration celebration.
The gesture, which involved Musk placing his right hand over his heart and then thrusting his arm out into the air, has been likened to a Nazi salute by many on social media.
Historians Claire Aubin and Ruth Ben-Ghiat have also weighed in, with Aubin calling the gesture a "sieg heil" and Ben-Ghiat describing it as a "Nazi salute" and "very belligerent".
Musk has responded to the backlash, posting on X that "Frankly, they need better dirty tricks. The 'everyone is Hitler' attack is sooo tired".
However, not everyone has condemned Musk's gesture. The Anti-Defamation League has defended him, stating that "It seems that Elon Musk made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute".
The controversy comes as Musk's politics have increasingly shifted to the right, with him making statements in support of far-right parties in Germany and the UK.
It was kinda funny though ðŸ¤ðŸ¤
