Former Ivory Coast international and African football legend Yaya Touré has described Nigeria’s Super Eagles as the most impressive side at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations.
Touré highlighted Nigeria’s attacking style and goalscoring record, noting that the Super Eagles scored 14 goals and conceded only four throughout the tournament. They also kept a clean sheet in all knockout matches prior to their semi-final exit.
Despite a strong run, Nigeria’s journey ended in a close semi-final match against Morocco. Touré also praised the quality of other teams, including Algeria, acknowledging their strong performances before being eliminated by Nigeria.
The former Manchester City and Barcelona midfielder commended Nigeria’s approach to games, saying their attacking football, goal-scoring output, and overall cohesion made them stand out. He also praised Morocco’s coach Walid Regragui for his practical and effective counter-attacking style.
Touré singled out Nigeria’s squad, noting that the team benefited from having “two of Africa’s top players,” which contributed to their memorable performances. Nigeria eventually secured the bronze medal after defeating Egypt 4-2 in a penalty shootout following a tied third-place playoff match.
