A United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, has strongly condemned the recent burning of a village in Adamawa State, Nigeria, allegedly carried out by ISIS terrorists. Moore shared his reaction on his official X account on Thursday, January 1, 2025.
The attack reportedly followed US military operations in Nigeria, after President Donald Trump ordered airstrikes targeting terrorist groups in Sokoto State. According to reports, the extremists responsible for the Adamawa attack declared that Christians must renounce their faith or face deadly consequences.
In his post, Moore described the statements by the extremists as “unacceptable” and emphasized that Christians in Nigeria are being specifically targeted because of their religious beliefs. He further expressed gratitude to President Trump for taking steps to defend vulnerable Christian communities in the country.
Moore wrote,
"ISIS is telling Christians they have an opportunity to 'spare their blood' if they convert. Our brothers and sisters will not bend the knee to anyone but our Lord and Savior though."
The US lawmaker’s comments underscore growing international concern about the security of religious minorities in northeastern Nigeria, where extremist groups such as ISIS and its affiliates have increasingly targeted civilian communities. Analysts say these attacks are part of a broader pattern of violence aimed at intimidating and destabilizing local populations.
Moore’s statement comes amid heightened attention to Nigeria’s ongoing fight against terrorism, with military and civilian authorities working alongside international partners to counter extremist networks. The Adamawa attack has drawn condemnation not only from US lawmakers but also from human rights organizations and religious leaders across the world, who continue to call for urgent measures to protect civilians.
