Residents of Numan town in Adamawa State were thrown into grief and shock on Saturday after two young men, aged 23 and 25, allegedly strangled their father in the early hours of the morning.
The deceased, a businessman known locally as Ogar ThankGod, was reportedly attacked by his two sons at about 1 a.m. on January 3 at his residence in the Gwe-da-Mallam neighbourhood of Numan. According to neighbours, the sons immediately fled the scene, scaling the fence of the house before anyone could intervene. The suspects remain at large as police continue their investigation.
One of the suspects was identified by neighbours as Joshua. Residents speculated that the incident may have been linked to an earlier domestic dispute between the deceased and his wife, who is the mother of the suspects.
A neighbour, Falimo Vanco, who spoke to SaharaReporters, described the incident as shocking and deeply distressing. She said, “My heart bleeds. We woke up to this terrible incident in our area. May the Almighty deliver this generation and save our children.”
The remains of Ogar ThankGod were later evacuated by operatives of the Numan Divisional Police Headquarters. Authorities have launched an investigation to apprehend the suspects and uncover the circumstances that led to the fatal attack.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said he would obtain full details from the Divisional Police Officer in Numan. However, as of the time of filing this report, no additional information had been provided.
The incident has left the Numan community in a state of shock and mourning. Neighbours and local residents have expressed concern about domestic disputes escalating into extreme violence and are calling for increased awareness, intervention, and support to prevent future tragedies.
Community leaders have also urged families to resolve conflicts peacefully and to seek assistance from local authorities or mediators before disagreements escalate into violence. The tragic death of Ogar ThankGod serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of unresolved domestic conflicts and the urgent need for preventive measures in households across the region.
