The Oyo State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspects in separate high-profile criminal cases, including the brutal amputation of a farmer’s wrist in Tede and the alleged sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl in Ibadan.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the arrests in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Saturday.
According to Ayanlade, one Sunday James allegedly severed the right wrist of a farmer, Benua Bukari, in Tede, a town in the Oke Ogun geopolitical zone of the state. The incident reportedly followed an altercation between the victim and the suspect, which escalated into a violent confrontation.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that Benua Bukari, a farmer and resident of Ologede Village, Tede, had an altercation with Sunday James, which escalated into a physical fight. During the fight, Sunday James allegedly used a cutlass to sever the right wrist of Benua Bukari,” the statement read.
Police officers from the Tede Division promptly mobilised to the scene, ensuring that the victim was rushed immediately to the hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. Sunday James was arrested at the scene and is now in lawful custody as investigations continue.
In a separate case, another suspect, identified as Olaitan Oloyede, was arrested in connection with the defilement of an eight-year-old girl in Ibadan, the state capital. The incident reportedly occurred in October 2025, and the victim had confided in her father about experiencing pain in her private parts, revealing the alleged assault by their 27-year-old neighbour.
“Acting promptly, the Oke Alaro Police Division commenced necessary inquiries. The suspect was arrested, placed in lawful custody, and is cooperating with the investigation, allowing the police to proceed with further inquiries,” Ayanlade said.
These cases highlight the proactive steps taken by the Oyo State Police Command to ensure swift intervention in criminal incidents and to protect the safety and rights of residents across the state. Authorities have urged community members to report suspicious activities immediately to the police and to support law enforcement agencies in bringing perpetrators to justice.
The Police Command further assured the public that investigations into both cases are ongoing and that the suspects would face appropriate legal action as the matters progress through the judicial system.
