In a major counter-offensive, the Joint Task Force, comprising the Nigerian military, DSS, Police, and other paramilitary agencies, successfully pursued and neutralized bandits who attacked parts of Kano State between Thursday night and Friday morning. The attackers were chased to Kogoro town in Katsina State, where about 150 bandits were reportedly killed, and 125 stolen cows were recovered.
Confirming the development, the security committee of Faruruwa, Shanono, and Bagwai Local Government Areas, through its chairman, Alhaji Yahya Bagobiri, described the operation as decisive and highly commendable.
“I can confirm that the Brigade Commander of the Bukavor Barrack, the Kano Police Commissioner, and the Director of DSS in Kano led the operation, chasing the bandits up to Kogoro in Katsina, killing all of them and recovering the stolen cows,” Bagobiri said.
He added that the operation effectively ended the persistent encroachment of bandits in the area, which had become one of their major cattle routes. The security committee said the presence of the task force has restored confidence among residents who had lived in fear of repeated attacks.
The attack involved hundreds of motorcycle riding bandits targeting villages in Shanono Local Government Area. During the raids, the bandits killed a civilian and stole over 150 cows. The victims reported that the bandits struck in the early hours of the morning, leaving many families traumatized. However, the coordinated response by the military and other security agencies neutralized the attackers, recovered most of the stolen livestock, and ensured no further casualties.
Bagobiri expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and the newly appointed Defence Minister, General Musa, retired, for their resolve in ensuring peace and security in Kano and across northern Nigeria. He urged the government to sustain the efforts and ensure long term security for residents of the region.
The operation is being hailed as one of the most decisive counter-offensives against bandits in recent times, demonstrating the effectiveness of coordinated military and paramilitary responses to persistent security challenges in northern Nigeria.
