The Niger State Police Command has arrested a nursing student following the sudden death of a university lecturer at Newgate University, Minna, in a shocking incident that has drawn widespread attention.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, on January 27, 2026, at around 10:00 a.m., Engr. Dr. Otori Abdulfatai Aiyede of the Federal Polytechnic Bida visited Stella Joseph, a student of the Niger State School of Nursing and Midwifery, Tunga, Minna. Dr. Aiyede was introducing himself to the student as part of his role as the new lecturer at the institution.
During the visit, the student reportedly served Dr. Aiyede a meal of spaghetti and egg. Shortly after consuming the food, the lecturer began convulsing and collapsed, prompting immediate concern from those present.
The Divisional Police Officer of Tudun Wada promptly led a team of officers to the scene. Dr. Aiyede was rushed to General Hospital, Minna, but tragically he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary, where an autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
The nursing student, Stella Joseph, has been taken into police custody, and a full investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police sources confirmed that forensic and investigative procedures are ongoing, and authorities have appealed to the public to remain patient as the investigation proceeds.
