A Nigerian man has spoken out following reports of the alleged death of Afrobeat singer Destiny Boy, using the moment to highlight the challenges faced by young artists in the Nigerian music industry.
In a video circulating on X, formerly Twitter, and shared by user @Teniola, the man claimed that the 22-year-old artist was attempting to return to the music scene when the incident reportedly occurred. According to unverified reports, Destiny Boy allegedly died at a traditionalist’s residence.
Reacting to the development, the man questioned why struggling musicians often fail to receive timely support, suggesting that intervention usually comes too late.
He referenced fellow artist Lyta, asking whether support would only be offered after another tragedy occurs. He further stated that young artists who experience early fame and financial success often find it difficult to adjust to life outside the spotlight and are frequently subjected to ridicule when they face setbacks.
The man appealed for renewed support for Lyta, calling on industry stakeholders, including YBNL Records founder Olamide, to assist the singer, even if through a collaborative effort.
Lyta, a former signee of YBNL Records, reportedly exited the label several years ago after expressing interest in signing with another record label. Subsequent allegations of comments made about the label boss were said to have led to a complete breakdown of their relationship.
The video has generated reactions across social media, with many users calling attention to issues of mental health, industry pressure, and the need for stronger support systems for emerging artists in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
