Kano, Nigeria, The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects, including a close relative, in connection with the brutal murder of a woman and her six children in the Dorayi Chiranchi area of Kano metropolis, a crime that has sent shockwaves across the city.
The prime suspect, 23-year-old Umar Auwalu, the nephew of the deceased, allegedly confessed to masterminding the killings. Police sources said Umar also admitted to involvement in other violent incidents across parts of Kano in recent months, raising concerns about a wider pattern of criminal activity.
In addition to Umar, authorities have taken into custody Isyaku Yakubu, popularly known as “Chebe”, 40, and Yakubu Abdulaziz, also called “Wawo”, 21, both residents of Kano. The three were apprehended during a late-night, intelligence-driven operation conducted between Friday night and early Saturday morning under the directives of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, and supervised by Kano State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
According to police spokesperson Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, investigators recovered several items from the suspects, including bloodstained clothing, mobile phones belonging to the victims, weapons, and cash believed to have been stolen from the crime scene. The police are continuing to probe the circumstances surrounding the murders and the suspects’ possible links to other criminal activities in the region.
“The Kano State Police Command is committed to ensuring that those responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice,” Kiyawa said. “We urge members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing any information that could assist investigations.”
The tragic incident has left the Dorayi Chiranchi community in shock, with neighbors describing the killings as unprecedented in scale and brutality. Authorities have assured residents that they are stepping up security measures across the metropolis to prevent further violent crimes.
