JUST IN: CAN Confirms Abduction of Worshippers in Kaduna Church Attack

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) covering the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory has confirmed the abduction of over 160 church worshippers by suspected terrorists in Kurmin Wali community, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The confirmation was given on Monday evening by the Chairman of Northern CAN, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, while speaking with journalists on the incident.

According to him, the attack occurred on Sunday while church services were ongoing at Cherubim and Seraphim Church 1 and Cherubim and Seraphim Church 2 in the area.

Rev. Hayab explained that information reaching him indicated that the attackers invaded the churches during worship, shut the gates, and forcefully led the congregants into nearby bushes.

He disclosed that eight of the victims later escaped, but as of Monday evening, 163 worshippers were still being held captive.

“We have been informed that security operatives are already handling the situation. We commend their efforts and appeal to them to ensure that all those abducted are rescued safely and without harm,” Hayab said.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the ongoing security challenges in parts of Southern Kaduna, where communities have continued to suffer attacks by armed groups despite sustained security operations.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kaduna State Government, the police, and military authorities had not released an official statement regarding the abduction.
