Former Minister of State for Education and two-time member of the House of Representatives, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has officially announced his intention to contest the 2027 Presidential election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Nwajiuba, who is also a legal practitioner and former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, said his decision to enter the race was motivated by the need for a shift toward competence-driven leadership in Nigeria.
Speaking on his ambition, the former minister stated that the country’s worsening economic, social, and political challenges require leaders who possess strong policy knowledge, negotiation skills, and the ability to build effective grassroots political structures.
According to him, years of relying on slogans and emotional rhetoric have failed to deliver meaningful solutions to Nigeria’s problems.
“Nigeria’s challenges cannot be solved by slogans or emotional speeches alone. The country needs leadership built on sound policies, competence, and the capacity to negotiate solutions that truly work for the people,” he said.
Nwajiuba, who was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989, explained that his experience across different arms of government has equipped him with a broad understanding of governance and public finance.
He noted that his service in the legislature, the executive arm, and national institutions has prepared him for the responsibility of leading a complex and diverse nation like Nigeria.
