An Evangelical Church Winning All pastor has been brutally killed by a mob following accusations of witchcraft in Kasuwan Magani, Kaduna State, in an incident that has sparked outrage and renewed concern over mob violence in the country.
The Evangelical Church Winning All Theological Seminary in Kagoro confirmed that the victim, Pastor Dio Idon, a former student of the institution, was attacked and killed on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
According to the seminary, the violence followed the death of the pastor’s brother, who reportedly died after a prolonged illness. In the aftermath of the death, members of the community allegedly accused Pastor Idon of being responsible through witchcraft. The accusation reportedly led to a mob attack in which the pastor was beaten to death, after which his body was set on fire.
At the time of his death, Pastor Idon was serving as the pastor of ECWA Ungwa Shaawa Local Church, under the Kasuwan Magani District Church Council. He was described by the seminary as a committed minister who had dedicated his life to Christian service and community work.
In a statement issued by the institution, the killing was described as a tragic and barbaric act. The seminary called on Christians to pray for the family of the deceased and urged spiritual reflection within the wider community.
“Today, we received with sadness the news that our student, Pastor Dio Idon, was massacred by a mob following witchcraft accusations,” the statement said. “Let us pray for his family for God’s comfort. Let us pray for the spiritual transformation of these barbaric perpetrators of evil.”
