Drama at Bunmi Akinnaanu’s Burial as Son Bars Father From Ceremony

Tension and emotional outbursts marked the burial of gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, as her son reportedly barred his biological father from participating in the funeral activities.

Video footage obtained by Naija News shows the young man confronting his father and refusing to let him enter the burial venue. He accused his father of abandoning the family for many years, claiming that he was absent not only during their childhood but also throughout their mother’s prolonged illness.

The son alleged that during this period, the family had relied entirely on their mother, who single-handedly provided for the children, ensured they were educated, and raised them with dedication despite the challenges she faced alone. In one of the clips, he expressed frustration over his father’s prolonged absence during what he described as the most difficult period of their mother’s life.

At the service of songs held in Lagos, the late singer’s first daughter, Jomiloju, spoke emotionally about their family life and her mother’s unwavering commitment. She described Bunmi Akinnaanu as a devoted parent who always prioritized her children’s wellbeing and education over her personal struggles.

Jomiloju vowed to carry on her mother’s legacy by supporting her younger brother and guiding him toward the values their mother held dear. She said, “She was always there for us, even when our father wasn’t. Her focus was to make sure we turned out responsible and did better than she did in her marital journey. I promised my mum that I will take care of my younger brother. He will be the prayer warrior and responsible son she wanted him to be.”

The incident revealed the lingering family tensions and the emotional strain caused by parental absence, even as the family sought to mourn and honor the late gospel singer. Members of the extended family and friends expressed shock and sadness at the confrontation, noting that it underscored unresolved issues between the children and their father.

The funeral, which drew colleagues, fans, and members of the gospel music community, also highlighted the strong bond between the late singer and her children, whose loyalty and love for their mother were evident throughout the ceremony.
