Nigerian singer and Afrobeats superstar, Davido, has sparked criticism online after making a playful request to his wife, Chioma, in reaction to a viral video involving American streamer IShowSpeed.
The clip, which Davido shared on his Instagram story, shows IShowSpeed during his visit to Ghana, where the streamer is seen being pampered by several women, receiving massages while they smile and interact with him.
In response, Davido jokingly asked his wife if he could be treated the same way, writing, “thechefchi oh boy my darling wife pls permit me this nah Ghana?”
However, the post drew immediate reactions across social media, with many criticizing the singer for what they perceived as a disrespectful comment toward his spouse.
Some of the comments read:
ThatgirlIfe: “Always disrespecting his wife. This thing is not funny at all.”
Realfabiansolomon: “Some men don’t know when to joke and when to keep quiet. Marriage is not for content.”
Iamcarrieb: “If it was a joke, it was still unnecessary. Social media is not everything.”
ChiomaSupport: “People will now pretend they care about his wife when they don’t even like her.”
Agathamt: “Davido just likes cruise, but this one miss road small.”
Toniadabossqueen: “After all the past drama, he should know better by now.”
KingJay: “Una too take everything serious. The man was clearly playing around.”
While some defended Davido, suggesting the comment was meant as a lighthearted joke, others felt it crossed the line, highlighting the fine line public figures must navigate on social media when joking about personal relationships.
The incident has reignited conversations about respect in marriage and the scrutiny celebrities face online, particularly when involving their partners.
