Bandits Kidnap Police Inspector and Two Others in Kano, Subject Them to Brutal Beatings While Forcing Public Pleas for Ransom
Suspected armed bandits have abducted a serving police inspector attached to the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State, along with two other men, in another incident highlighting the growing insecurity across northern Nigeria.
The victims were identified as Inspector Kabiru Bello Adamu, a serving officer at the Police Academy in Wudil, Muntari, and Musa Rabiu, popularly known as Danladi. All three men are from Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to information obtained by SaharaReporters, the victims were kidnapped while travelling from Rijiya Zaki Motor Park in Kano State to Kebbi State. They were reportedly on a private journey when they encountered the armed group along the highway.
A disturbing video circulating online shows the abductees in clear distress as armed bandits surrounded them and pointed guns at their heads while beating them with sticks and the butts of AK forty seven rifles. Throughout the footage, the victims could be heard crying and begging for mercy while appealing to their families and members of the public to raise money for their release.
In the video, Inspector Kabiru Bello Adamu identified himself and narrated how the incident occurred. Speaking in Hausa and visibly shaken, he explained that he was travelling to Kebbi State to visit relatives and former colleagues he had worked with years earlier in order to maintain family and social ties.
He said that during the journey they unexpectedly ran into armed bandits in the bush, which led to their capture. The inspector, speaking under duress, appealed for mercy and called for a peaceful resolution, invoking religious sentiments and reminding the abductors that the victims have families and loved ones who depend on them.
Another victim, Muntari, also spoke in the video and appealed desperately to friends, relatives, and the general public for help. He described their situation as a severe hardship and pleaded for compassion for the sake of humanity and religion.
The third abductee, Musa Rabiu, also known as Danladi, confirmed that they were travelling from Kano towards Birnin Kebbi when the incident occurred. At one point during the recording, he stated that the abductors were treating them kindly. The comment immediately angered one of the bandits and was followed by further physical assaults on the victims, who were beaten again with sticks and gun butts.
As the assault continued, the three men repeatedly screamed for forgiveness and mercy, begging for help and appealing to Allah to touch the hearts of their captors.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the worsening security situation in northern Nigeria, where kidnappings for ransom have become increasingly common. Travellers, commuters, and even security personnel are frequently targeted by armed groups operating freely along major highways and forest routes.
Despite repeated assurances by government authorities and security agencies, incidents of abduction continue unabated, leaving citizens vulnerable and fearful during routine travel.
