Popular Nigerian activist and social commentator, Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has announced plans to sponsor a young Nigerian boy abroad after receiving a $50,000 cash gift from a benefactor, a move that has drawn widespread admiration across social media.
VeryDarkMan made the disclosure in an emotional video shared on his Instagram page, where he recounted how the donation came about and why he decided to channel a significant part of the funds toward supporting a gifted child. According to him, the benefactor was impressed by his humanitarian activities and advocacy efforts, particularly during his recent stay in China, and promised to support him financially.
That promise, he said, was eventually fulfilled when the donor handed him $50,000 in cash.
However, rather than viewing the money as a personal windfall, VeryDarkMan explained that receiving the funds triggered memories of a young Nigerian boy whose content he had once come across on Instagram. He admitted that months earlier, he had skipped past the boy’s page due to a busy schedule, unaware of the depth of talent the child possessed.
The situation changed recently when a friend reposted the boy’s content, bringing it back to his attention. Upon reviewing the videos more closely, VeryDarkMan said he was stunned by the boy’s creativity and intelligence.
According to him, the young boy had successfully built several functional devices entirely from scratch, including a blender, a power bank and a projector, using locally sourced materials. VeryDarkMan described the achievement as extraordinary, noting that such ingenuity is rare and often goes unsupported in Nigeria.
“I will not let that boy’s life or talent die like many others in Nigeria,” he said, visibly emotional in the video.
The activist revealed that he immediately reached out to the boy and requested that his parents be involved in subsequent discussions. He explained that his intention is not only to provide financial assistance but also to ensure that the child’s education and welfare are properly structured and guided.
While stressing that he does not consider himself rich, VeryDarkMan said his personal journey from humble beginnings has taught him the importance of using opportunities to uplift others. He described himself as someone who “came from the streets” and believes that God has helped him rise to a position where he can now impact lives meaningfully.
He further pledged to sponsor the boy’s education abroad, where he believes access to better facilities, mentorship and exposure would allow the child to fully develop his skills and maximize his potential. According to him, sending the boy abroad would provide an environment that nurtures innovation rather than stifling it.
VeryDarkMan also addressed concerns about how the $50,000 would be spent, clarifying that although part of the money would go toward settling personal debts and obligations, supporting the boy’s future remains one of his top priorities.
The announcement has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians praising the activist for choosing to invest in education and talent development rather than personal luxury. Social media users have described the gesture as inspiring, calling it a reminder of the impact individuals can make by supporting young talents early.
The development has also reignited broader conversations about the lack of institutional support for gifted children in Nigeria, as well as the need for stronger systems to identify, nurture and protect exceptional talent before it is lost to poverty, neglect or lack of opportunity.
As of the time of filing this report, VeryDarkMan has not disclosed the identity of the boy or the specific country where he plans to sponsor his education. However, he assured followers that updates would be shared as plans progress, emphasizing that the goal is to give the young innovator a chance to thrive and make a meaningful impact in the future.
