Nigerian social critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has shared a controversial perspective on what he believes is the only effective solution to Nigeria’s ongoing terrorism crisis.
In a video posted on his official Facebook page on Monday, VDM attributed the rise in terrorism to what he described as a severe lack of education in the northern region of the country. He argued that many of those involved in terrorist activities come from communities where formal education is either neglected or inaccessible.
According to him, prioritising education in the North would drastically reduce terrorism by empowering young people and preventing them from being manipulated by criminal groups.
He said, “The only solution to terrorism is to educate the Northerners. Any Nigerian leader that will take four years out of his eight years to educate the North and force education on them has solved terrorism problems. Let them have the knowledge because knowledge is power.”
VDM further claimed that young uneducated men are easily recruited because they lack opportunities and exposure. He warned that Nigeria may face even greater security challenges in the coming years if the educational gap is not urgently addressed.
He added, “If you go to the North, you see a lot of young people in the streets begging. You can easily pack ten thousand of them and bring them to Abuja. That is why the fewer people that are educated keep using the uneducated as their weapons.”
His comments have sparked debate online, with many Nigerians agreeing that education plays a major role in combating insecurity, while others criticised his generalisations about the region.
