Two teenage girls have been arrested in Edo State after they were allegedly found in possession of a pump action shotgun and several live cartridges. The incident, which has sparked widespread conversation online, was revealed through a video shared by the anti cultism watchdog platform Naija Confra on Wednesday.
According to information gathered, the girls identified as Believe Ehinor, aged eighteen, and Ofoma Sofia, aged nineteen, were intercepted by officers of the Uromi Division of the Edo State Police Command at approximately 11.30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. The officers were reportedly on routine patrol when they noticed suspicious movement and decided to carry out a check.
During the search, police recovered an automatic pump action shotgun with Breach Number 0230, along with five live cartridges hidden inside a sack bag the teenagers were carrying. The discovery immediately prompted their arrest.
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, CSP Moses Yamu, confirmed the arrest and the recovery of the weapon. According to Yamu, the two suspects confessed during preliminary interrogation that the firearm belonged to one Peace Ehinor, a female suspect who reportedly fled the scene during an earlier police raid.
The police have launched efforts to track down the fleeing suspect, who is believed to have possible links to a wider criminal network or cult related activity in the region. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the girls are affiliated with any cult groups. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the weapon and the intended purpose.
The video shared by Naija Confra quickly drew public attention because of the age of the suspects and the growing concern over youth involvement in criminal activity in Edo State. Many social media users expressed shock. Others called for stronger community policing, youth engagement programmes, and stricter enforcement against illegal firearms.
The Edo State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to maintaining security and reducing crime across the state. CSP Yamu urged residents to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activity promptly. He also assured the public that the case will be thoroughly investigated and that all individuals involved will be brought to justice.
