Ugba community in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State was thrown into panic early Wednesday morning following the abduction of two residents by suspected gunmen. The victims, identified as Mr. Kpishi Terhile and Madam Demetindi Nongo, were reportedly taken from the residence of Teacher Jerry Ugba, situated near the General Hospital in the area, at about 1:00 a.m.
Eyewitnesses described the operation as calm and coordinated, noting that the abductors carried out the act without any apparent violence. Community members expressed shock at the audacity of the attackers, who reportedly moved swiftly and efficiently, leaving residents shaken and fearful for the safety of others in the area.
Local sources pointed out that the incident follows a similar pattern to previous kidnappings recorded in the community and neighboring areas. Such incidents, they noted, often target residents in quiet hours, making it difficult for local security personnel to intervene in time. This has heightened concern among community members, many of whom have begun taking extra precautions by monitoring entry points and limiting night-time movements.
As of the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of the abducted residents remain unknown. The uncertainty has caused anxiety and distress among families and friends, who are appealing for urgent action from the authorities. Efforts to confirm the incident with the Spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, proved unsuccessful, as calls to her mobile telephone were not returned.
This latest abduction adds to the growing security concerns in Benue State, which has recently experienced a surge in kidnappings, armed attacks, and other criminal activities. Community leaders and residents are urging the government and law enforcement agencies to intensify patrols, increase intelligence gathering, and engage more effectively with local communities to prevent further incidents.
Residents have also called on neighbors to remain vigilant, report any suspicious movement or strangers in their areas, and prioritize safety measures in response to the ongoing threat. Authorities have been urged to treat the case with urgency, given the risks involved and the potential for escalation if prompt action is not taken.
The situation continues to develop, and the community remains on high alert as families await news of the safe return of Mr. Terhile and Madam Nongo.
